Internal Medicine is a medical specialty which is focused on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. Internal Medicine physicians are also commonly known as Primary Care Physicians. The Internal Medicine physicians at Suncoast Internal Medicine Consultants provide long-term, comprehensive care in the office, hospital and nursing home, managing both common and complex illnesses in adults and the elderly. Rheumatology is a subspecialty in internal medicine and pediatrics that deals with the joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases and heritable connective tissue disorders. A rheumatologist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and therapy of the rheumatic diseases.

Conditions rheumatologists treat

 

Rheumatic diseases are conditions of inflammation and auto-immunity and there are more than 200 diseases that may be treated by a rheumatologist.  Some diseases that rheumatologists treat include:

• arthritis

• dermatomyositis

• gout

• lupus erythematosus

• Lyme disease

• mixed connective tissue disease

• polychondritis

• polymyositis

• polymyalgia rheumatica

• sarcoidosis

• Sjögren’s syndrome

• scleroderma

Rheumatology is also associated with soft tissue diseases and rheumatologists treat many of the them, including:

Gastroenterology is a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders affecting the digestive system and the liver.

Gastroenterologists are trained to have an acute knowledge of the normal movement of food through the stomach and intestine, the absorption of nutrients, how waste is removed from the body, and how the liver helps with the digestion process. This area of expertise allows them to diagnose issues such as:

• gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

• hepatitis

• peptic ulcers

• colitis

• gallbladder and biliary tract diseases

• nutritional issues

Prior to contacting our office for an appointment please contact your insurance company and verify that the provider you are wanting to see is In-Network with your individual insurance plan. Any insurance plan that assigns a PCP to the member needs to be updated to reflect the Internal Medicine physician at Suncoast Internal Medicine that the appointment is scheduled with. Failure to update this information with your insurance company could result in your appointment being rescheduled.

 

All patients must bring with them at the time of the appointment the new patient packet, photo ID, Insurance card, all medication bottles and any records and/or reports pertaining to the patient’s medical history.
